Five Fab Thanksgiving Board Books

Okay, so in the UK we have Harvest celebrations earlier in the year; in fact, we had our church thanksgiving brunch this beginning of this month. I had a migraine though so I couldn’t go. However, my wife is American and we celebrate Thanksgiving in style.

This year is Snappy’s second thanksgiving so I’ve decided to get him a board book to celebrate it. There are a few good ones to choose from so I’m sharing them with you.

Five Fab Thanksgiving Board BooksFirst up is The First Thanksgiving: A Lift-The-Flap Book. I like the lift the flap books in the theory but I know that in reality the flaps get ripped off pretty quickly by tiny hands. This one is bright and colourful and I like the idea of the story – something my son won’t learn in school here.

Spot’s ThanksgivingFive Fab Thanksgiving Board Books is cute because it’s Spot – who doesn’t love Spot. Snappy doesn’t have any Spot books yet, which is definitely something I have to rectify. Perhaps if not this one, one of the board books in Welsh. Mae Spot yn Cymraeg yw Smot – Spot in Welsh is Smot.

Llama Llama Gives ThanksFive Fab Thanksgiving Board Books is a book about llamas! Apparently, there is a whole series of them – who knew. This is about a family of llamas celebrating Thanksgiving and I’m tempted to get it just cause of the llamas. The artwork is nice and well…llamas are awesome.

ThankfulFive Fab Thanksgiving Board Books is beautiful and probably the book I am going to get my son because it’s exactly what Thanksgiving is about. Whatever the origin of the holiday, it’s about being thankful for everything the world has to offer and something I want to teach my son. The art is beautiful and it’s about being thankful rather than the actual holiday itself so good all year round.

Five Fab Thanksgiving Board BooksLast is Turkey Time! A delicious board book. We’re big on food here at QLF, though Snappy is mostly all about breakfast over dinner so this might be wasted on him. But it’s colourful and might encourage him to eat his dinner. Or maybe that’s just wishful thinking.

So, those are the Thanksgiving Board Books – there are more of course – but there are the best ones in my opinion and I’m definitely geting Thankful. What about you? If you have any suggestions let me know, or tell me which you would choose.

  1. These books sound lovely and they do have a lesson in each of them, which is great. Children learn a lot from stories so it’s important to chose the right books for them.

  2. This books would be lovely when my LO is older to learn about different holidays. Whilst it’s an American Holiday I think it’s a good idea to teach children about being thankful for things. I love spot the dog! x

  3. Ah wow, who knew! I donโ€™t know why but I had just never contemplated that there would be books specifically for Thanksgiving but these are fab. Although in my local library here are books for going to the dentist, first day at school, someone dying. I suppose there is a book for everything.

  6. I’m American and one of the traditions that I have brought over with me is Thanksgiving. It’s my favourite holiday and I love being able to share it with my step-kids! They love it, so these books are so cute. Even though they are probably too old for them I know they’ll like them. x
