I write poetry late at night
in broken verse with broken words
without any source of light.
I write poetry in the middle of the day
scribbled on scrap paper
because I’ve something to say.
I write poetry you’ll never read
keeping the worst lines to myself
every dark secret and deed.
I write poetry when you don’t listen
writing what I need you to hear
with eyes that slightly glisten.
I write poetry full of lies
real feelings and exaggerated stories,
the best days I’ve had and the worst goodbyes.
I write poetry because I need to
because sometimes I have nothing else
and it still feels so right and so new.
