Poem: Pluck

I haven’t quite decided
what they tell me is true
pluck away one by one
and leave me hanging by my bones
my soul scoured clean and raw
by every touch.

Probably should’ve listened
but here I am all the same

We are here all the same
put off for too long
the burn is equalled
in desperation
mine and yours
and the push is exquisite but
I’m too broken.

Probably should’ve done this
a long time ago.

All this time wasted
and now I still can’t quite decide
if I should pull away
or brush it aside
but piece by piece I’m coming apart.

Put me back together or leave,
we can’t do both
and it doesn’t matter anyway.
