Poem: Change In Light

my toddler kissing a pregnant belly
Our connection is touch
and the change in light as I hover over you,
although you can hear
I have little to say
except
be nice to your momma
until we meet at least.

It’s a back and forth
soothing motion that I chase until we sleep
the three of us,
the four of us
I didn’t know
I had so much to love to give
or so much to feel.

We’re in turmoil
but we’re supposed to be in turmoil anyway
so back and forth
soothes us both
in a way my mind
can’t quite comprehend
my my heart can.
